Spotter Global’s Tactical Radar Kit™ is a compact, lightweight radar system designed for quick deployment, setup, and operation. It is field-tested and can stand alone without access to the internet or other infrastructure. The kit was made to be easy to set up and operate in the field with minimal training/previous experience. The kit offers situational awareness beyond 1 km utilizing only a sophisticated compact radar, a long-lasting battery that can be solar charged, a rugged computer, a tripod, and simple connection cables, all of which can fit into a small, lightweight backpack.

Speed, stealth, and real-time intelligence are key for the tactical success of warfighters. Tactical success often comes down, not just to who has more resources, but which side has better information and which side can move quickly enough to secure the advantages afforded by the environment and the emerging sequence of events.

Portable military radars allow warfighters to maintain situational awareness wherever they go. These small, manpackable tactical radar kits can be set up in under five minutes to cover key convoy routes, battlefields, encampment perimeters, urban alleyways and rooftops, and even stretches of airspace vulnerable to drone activity. Portable radar systems can be easily carried and deployed to help with any mission and set up in any environment to detect approaching threats through darkness, fog, snow, smoke, or rain.

The Origin of Mobile Military Radars

Spotter Global produced the world’s first man-pack radar in 2009. Before then, radars were large- to mid-sized units that could only be moved using large ships, planes, or other vehicles.

Manpackable radars have transformed the way warfighters go about field operations. The ability to quietly, subtly, and reliably detect threats from many hundreds of meters away has allowed warfighters in the field to maintain the element of surprise, stay safe, and coordinate their efforts better for operational success.

Applicable Scenarios for Man-Portable Radars:

• A mobile team of warfighters must hold their position and wait for a UAS supply drop in a remote location. They set up their TRK to detect any ground threats that may approach them through the snow as they wait.
• A mobile team of warfighters must survey a canyon pass for several hours without being spotted themselves. They bivouac in a trench with their manpackable radar set up on the ground above, where it can relay information to them in their hidden position ensuring that even if their radar is spotted by enemy forces, they won’t be.
• During low-light hours, a mobile team of warfighters awaits the order to advance on the enemy position. To avoid being taken by surprise before then, they deploy two TRKs, one to watch for ground threats from the east and another to monitor the area westward.
